About Timber Selection
Iron Moa sells rustic and reclaim timber. Effort is put into rescuing old boards and using locally sourced products. As such timber selection and stock varies, however typically involves the following timber:
- Reclaimed Kauri
- Reclaimed Rimu
- Reclaimed Pine/Oregon
- Roughsawn Macrocarpa
Timber includes various defects which are intentionally included as character marks. These may include:
- machine and saw blade marks
- live edge
- knots and cracks
- nail holes and hammer marks
- tannin and sap stains
- scrim and staple marks
- old insect marks (all timber is treated for insects)
Such defects are reviewed and pass quality checks when found to be non-structural.
Timber Finish
We finish timber in various styles. Each product specifies the appropriate timber finish, however other finishes are available in request. These include:
- Roughsawn only
- Sanded or Dressed
- Oil or Polyurethane
- Epoxy timber preservative treatment (for wet areas)
Timber Care
Timber should be stored in a dry environment away from sun light exposure. We recommend timber to be installed as soon as possible to avoid cupping or warping. Iron Moa is not responsible for movement in timber as movement is a normal part of working with taw timber products.
What is covered by warranty?
Timber with structural defects is covered by warranty. This does not include loose knots and hairline cracks that do not affect function.
Excessive warping of timber if contacted within 7 days of receiving product. Excessive means the timber in unable to be installed.
Shipping
Large items are not available for courier an must be sent by freight. As per our shipping terms, anything over 1.8meters is shipped to local depo, shipping to commercial or residential address is available for an extra fee.
