Step-by-Step Guide to Assembling a Black Pipe Towel Rail + Shelf
Tools and Materials Needed
- Black pipe kitset for the towel rail (pipes, elbows, flanges, screws, etc.)
- Timber shelf
- Electric drill or screwdriver
- Wall anchors (if necessary)
- Measuring tape
- Spirit level
- Pencil
Step 1: Lay Out the Kitset Parts
- Unbox the kit: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
- Check components: Lay out the black pipes, fittings, flanges, screws, and brackets.
-
Verify parts: Ensure that all required pieces are present as per the instruction manual. Typical parts include:
- Straight black pipes
- Side Outlet Elbows (to connect corners)
- Flanges (for mounting)
- Screws
Step 2: Assemble the Pipe Rail
- Connect the pipes: Begin by attaching the 70mm and 80mm pipes to the side outlet elbows and flanges. Note the 70mm goes to the shelf, while the 80mm goes to the wall. Tighten until most of the thread is hidden by the fitting and parts are tight. Not connect the long pipe to join the two side outlet elbows together.
- Check alignment: Ensure the towel rail is level and adjust if necessary.
Step 3: Measure the Placement on the Wall
- Decide the position: Choose where the towel rail will be mounted.
- Mark anchor points: Use the measuring tape and pencil to mark the locations for the flanges on the wall. Make sure the rail will be level.
- Check spacing: Measure the distance between flange centers to match the pipe lengths.
Step 4: Attach the Flanges to the Wall
- Drill holes: Use a drill to create a hole at one of the the marked spots for the flanges. If mounting on plaster consider wall anchors to support the weight.
- Screw in the flanges: Using the screws provided, secure the flanges to the wall. Ensure they are tightly in place.
- Once attached: Repeat the process with each screw hole.
Step 5: Attach the shelf
- Measure and attach: center the shelf on the flanges and use a drill to put the 20mm screws into the timber.
Step 6: Clean and Finish
- Wipe down: Clean the rail using a dry cloth to remove any dust or fingerprints.
- Inspect the installation: Make sure everything looks even and properly aligned.
